Westland Distillery Wine Cask Finish American Single Malt Batch No 1 700 ml

Seattle's Westland Distillery built its reputation on American single malt made from a brewer's range of malts. Batch 01 of its Wine Cask Finish, part of the Cask Exploration Series, starts with Westland's five-malt recipe: Washington Select Ale Malt plus Munich, Extra Special, Brown and Pale Chocolate malts, fermented for 144 hours with Belgian saison yeast.

The spirit matured for five years in new American oak and first-fill ex-bourbon casks, then was finished in red wine casks that held Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petit Verdot, Tempranillo and a red blend. Westland lists allspice, raspberry reduction, chocolate wafer and dried rose on the nose, followed by chocolate raspberry turnover, Earl Grey tea and dried strawberry on the palate.

Released in September 2024, it's a limited batch of about 14,650 bottles.
