Heartbeat Hot Rose 750 ml

Heartbeat bills itself as the first spicy rosé. Founder Kristen Knapp pitched the idea around the industry until she met winemaker Gianna Fugazi in Sebastopol, California, who took it on. The result is a woman-owned brand with a woman winemaker and a bottle that sits somewhere between a dry rosé and a spicy cocktail.

The heat is not an additive. Heartbeat ferments peppers the way you would ferment grapes, making a 100% pepper wine that is then blended into a dry rosé. The brand notes zero sugar and no artificial flavors, and describes the current vintage as about a 5 out of 10 on its heat scale.

Serve it well chilled on its own, over ice, or with food that likes a little kick, such as tacos, grilled shrimp or spicy noodles.
