Description
Whispering Angel is the rosé from Château d'Esclans, the Provence estate northeast of St. Tropez that Sacha Lichine acquired in 2006 with the goal of making world-class rosé. Twenty years on, it is widely regarded as the benchmark for Provence rosé.
It is a blend of Grenache, Cinsault, Rolle (Vermentino) and Syrah from the Esclans Valley and the surrounding Côtes de Provence. Grapes are picked at night to keep them fresh, optically sorted, gently pressed with minimal oxidation, and fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel.
In the glass it is pale, with a full, lush palate that stays bone dry through a smooth finish. James Suckling called it "deliciously creamy and smooth." Serve well chilled (8 to 12°C) and drink within a year or two of vintage.
