Virginia Distillery Courage & Conviction Cuvee Cask 750 ml

Courage & Conviction Cuvée Cask is an American single malt from Virginia Distillery Co. in Lovingston, Virginia, where it is distilled, matured and bottled on site from 100% malted barley. It matures for at least four years in first-fill European red wine cuvée casks that are shaved, toasted and re-charred (STR). The distillery says this treatment draws out sugars and fruit from the wine casks along with caramel, toffee and vanilla.

The nose shows plum, dark raspberry, chocolate torte and clove, followed by tart cherry, blood orange, cocoa and burnt sugar on the palate and a finish of candied walnuts and ginger. It earned a Double Gold at the 2021 San Francisco World Spirits Competition and 90 points from Whisky Advocate.
