St. George Spirits American Single Malt Whiskey 750ml

St. George Spirits laid down its first whiskey barrels in 1997, released Lot 1 of its single malt in 2000, and has put out a new lot every year since. Head distiller Lance Winters, who joined in 1996, has been inducted into the Whisky Magazine Hall of Fame.

The whiskey is built from two-row barley at several roast levels for toasted nut and cocoa notes, plus a portion of barley smoked over beech and alder. Each lot is a blend of varied casks. Lot 26, for example, drew on 25 casks including ex-bourbon barrels, re-toasted French oak, apple brandy casks and California Sauternes-style wine casks.

Lot 26 shows cocoa, brown butter, marzipan, ripe plum and a whisper of campfire smoke on the nose, then marmalade, buttery pastry, dark chocolate and cedar on the palate. Notes shift from lot to lot.
