The Lost Explorer Tobalá 10 Year 200ml

The Lost Explorer Tobalá is an unaged mezcal made entirely from wild Tobalá agave (Agave potatorum) that grows for about ten years before harvest. The "10 Year" refers to the agave's age, not time in barrel. Maestro mezcalero Fortino Ramos makes it in San Pablo Huixtepec, Oaxaca. The agave is roasted in a traditional earthen pit, crushed with a stone tahona and distilled in copper stills.

Look for earthy notes with hints of tobacco, cocoa, vanilla and leather. Reviewers also pick up green pepper, coconut water and a light herbal edge. Tobalá is a small, slow-growing agave prized by mezcal fans, and this is a good introduction to it.
