Ohishi Sakura Cask Whisky 750 ml

Ohishi Sakura Cask is a Japanese rice whisky from Ohishi Distillery in Mizukami, Kumamoto Prefecture. It's made from estate-grown and locally sourced malted and unmalted rice fermented with koji. The spirit ages 5 to 6 years in ex-Cognac and ex-Oloroso sherry casks, then finishes for 1 to 2 years in casks made from Kumamoto sakura (cherry) wood.

The cherry wood adds a floral, fruity side. Expect cherry lozenge, rose petal, vanilla icing, strawberry and stone fruit with tingling spice, along with honey, pink peppercorn and allspice. The finish brings brown sugar, cacao and sea salt. Whisky Advocate scored it 93 points in 2023.
