Castle & Key Harvest Seasonal Gin 750 ml

Harvest is the autumn edition of Castle & Key's Roots of Ruin seasonal gin series, distilled in Frankfort, Kentucky. Like the distillery's flagship gin, it starts from the same mash bill as Castle & Key's rye whiskey. That grain is distilled and then redistilled with botanicals rather than going into barrels, giving the gin more body and spice than a typical neutral base.

The botanical recipe changes with each release, leaning into darker, earthier and warmer flavors suited to the cooler months. The 2021 edition, for example, used juniper, coriander, angelica root, star anise, cedar leaf, sumac, fennel and bay leaf. It showed pine, bay leaf and cracked pepper on the nose, then cedar, licorice and tart dark berry with a warm, lightly savory finish.

Try it in a Martinez, a Negroni or a gin and tonic garnished with orange peel and a sprig of rosemary.
